Starfish
The Starfish class aims to advance your child’s breath control skills, extending their breath holding to up to 5 seconds. Children will focus on kicking and paddling on cue and while submerged, as well as learning to be comfortable floating on their back. This level has an extended focus on gripping and vertical turning as part of key water safety skills that are developed and added to at every level at Little Swimmers Swim Schools.
Starfish are
- Ages 10-24 Months
- Swimming babies with independent mobility
- Babies who may have a small amount of water and swimming experience to swimming babies who are quite comfortable and agile in the water
- Group class of 4 to 6
What do our Starfish learn?
- Lots of fun songs to make learning to swim fun for you and your baby
- Continued water familiarisation and opportunities for bonding
- Learning breath control techniques including increasing the time your child can hold their breath underwater.
- Building on your baby’s natural buoyancy skills to independent floating with your help
- Extending your baby’s natural grasp ability to teach them to hold on to you whenever they are in water
- Learning to kick and paddle on cue and to understand that either is needed your baby wants to move in water
- Learning basic turning skills as part of water safety
When I graduate from Starfish
- I can accept water I can kick my legs when submerged
- I am comfortable with water on my face I can float on my back with support
- I am comfortable with being submerged in water I can hold onto my parent’s t-shirt without assistance
- I can hold my breath for a minimum of 5 seconds
- I can vertically turn front to back with assistance
- I can kick my legs when cued
